Performance News

A few positive thoughts from Valerie Lunden.
Thank you for being a supporter of Wealth Performance. These articles are intended to be informative and inspirational. Since this is the first edition we realize that it isn't perfect. We want to improve so we welcome your ideas (E-mail us:Info@wealthperformance.com). Also, feel free to share this information with anyone who would benefit. In fact, please forward this to all the women in your address book. All Wealth Performance newsletters will soon be available on the Wealth Performance website. Predictions indicate that the website will be up and running very soon. But we don't have to wait for the website, let's get started right now! Well, here's the quandary, what topic to discuss in the very FIRST editorial? Since Money Performance is getting it's own hefty feature in this newsletter, Weight Performance weighed in first (excuse the pun). General consensus indicates that weight management can be difficult at any age. However at XX (XX being any age after thirty) the experience can be quite challenging. From a personal perspective, a self-imposed weight loss program has been a long and frustrating mission. Most mornings after hitting the scales with a gentle thud, positive weight loss has finally reached the 25-pound mark, which even at the tender age of XX happens to be a number too small to digest when the final goal is a lot higher. Other then jumping for joy or scoffing down a box of bon-bons, (courtesy of Godiva), this number (twenty- five) represents the slowest weight loss in a lifetime of dieting. If you're wondering the length of time I've been on this diet, it is well over twenty-four months, which averages a mere pound every six weeks! Recently, the question was asked, what lesson is being learned here? Well, without a doubt the body must be blamed and let's not forget the mind, it never cooperates when you're on a diet. Even after adding moderate exercise, it seems the metabolism has slowed down to what could only be compared to a Warp Factor 1, which if you happen to be a Star Trek fan you know is very slow. The worst part is not being able to eat really decadent high-fat food. The simplest of extravagances, for example chocolate (not only Godiva) and cheesecake are now restricted. These foods affect digestion, sleep and the production of dare I say it, globs of unwanted body fat.

The discovery of new words in a dieter's vocabulary can be equally frustrating. Words like gas, constipation, burping and last but not least, way too much acid are muttered with more frequency. A reasonable assumption could be that at the tender age of XX weight-loss is indeed an art form. If one happens to be 40-something, (even 30 something) and going through this personal hell, the only encouraging response would be, "I'm sorry, but just stick to the plan!" Incredible as this all seems, the fight to stay conscious regarding health as well as remaining young and beautiful, which as the song goes it's my duty to be, requires focusing on the goal. Ten more pounds, ten more pounds is now the daily mantra. What is also vital is the celebration of all those little successes. The loss of pounds followed by inches, and then the sheding of old clothes for new ones becomes the real success. On some days even the scale looks attractive and funny, it doesn't seem to groan as loudly as it did before! WEIGHT PERFORMANCE
Yes! Broccoli can change your life!
Why showcase Broccoli? Why not Broccoli? Really, where the vegetable is concerned Broccoli should be held in high esteem. Green, scrumptious and vitamin-filled, this gem should be a key componet in any weight-loss management program. Is it possible to become a Brocoholic? Well, perhaps it is! Indeed, steadily adding The Broc to any diet does wonders for the digestion. Taste-wise a yum-yum reaction would be far reaching, and eating large quantities does call for a discerning (and patient) palate. From an economic standpoint, broccoli is plentiful, inexpensive and documented to be good for you. As a bonus, broccoli is not known to be an obvious allergen, so breaking out or passing out probably won't happen, (but just on the safe side, check with your doctor). How about serving sizes? What's suggested is about 2 cup fulls, preferably at each main meal, eaten on most weekdays! Agreed, this could get boring, but remember, broccoli has more nutrition then basic lettuce, and here's a menu tip, always eat it with something fun like pasta, hamburgers or chicken pot pie. Now, don't go hog-wild, broccoli or a comparable veggie should always be the largest serving of food on your plate. Also, try planning ahead. Steam large batches so it is on hand, ready to eat in your fridge. **The following nutritional information is the skinny on broccoli. Again, always get professional advice from your doctor before adding anything new to your diet. The following information has been gleaned from various internet sources.

Broccoli Facts Named after the Latin, Bracchium, which means strong arm or branch.

  • Rich in Vitamin A--Broccoli's dark green color is an indicator of its hearty carotene content. One half- cup of cooked Broccoli provides 1083 IU of vitamin A.
  • Broccoli is folic acid abundant. About one-half cup, cooked, offers 39 mcg.
  • One cup of cooked broccoli has as much Vitamin C as an orange. Consider picking The Broc over the orange. A a rule anything that has an orange flavor is acidic and doesn't aid digestion.
  • Broccoli offers 71.8 mg of calcium for a whole cup (cooked), as much calcium as 4 oz. of milk. Again, consider choosing the broccoli, it's kinder on the digestion.
  • Think powerhouse of protein. Broccoli contains 2 grams of protein for one-half cup steamed. High Protein dieter's pig-out!
  • Beta carotene is found in broccoli florets and plenty of nutrition is found in the stems. Here's the list of other nutrients: Iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.
  • The best for the last--Fiber. 1 cup of broccoli has 5.6 grams of fiber. Most American enjoy 15 grams of dietary fiber, but experts agree that the body requirement should be at least 30 grams. 2 cups of broccoli at 2 meals a day would hit 2/3 of the daily desired amount!

MONEY PERFORMANCE
How do we save money?
Is saving money a science? The behaviors of men and women in regards to saving money appear quite contrary. Current economic growth indicators and the increased debt ratios documented on the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics* website suggest that both groups in the US spend with abandon, and from general consensus there are several acceptable styles of both accumulation and spending. For women in particular being labeled a "Spender" or a "Saver" is inconsequential. Saving for the future has become unavoidable, necessary and important, and possibly every woman (and man) should have a system that they can stick with and maintain. If you're a beginning Saver how to begin is the real question? The most challenging aspect is modifying past money spending behaviors and understanding how much to save. This last part, how much to save, could be a guessing game. Life expectancy for both men and women has improved, and planning for those unexpected financial catastrophes could be difficult. If the desire is to find a reasonable money saving system, or improve a system already in place the book entitled The Richest Man In Babylon by George Classon offers a sensible plan. This classic written in 1926, without a doubt has endured the test of time. As a money management book the style is unique, offering a fictional tale about the people of Babylon, from the richest to the poorest. The premise suggests that accumulating WEALTH is very possible when a plan is in place. Perhaps this book has endured because the basic process has been modified and implemented time any time again throughout history by governments and money managers. Read it and understand why. The most important rule is after beginning the plan, stick with it like glue!

The following is a MONEY PERFORMANCE plan for starting an at home saving's program. THE MONEY PERFORMANCE WAY utilizes SOCKS. Would it be a correct assumption that lots of people own socks? No need to go out and buy special piggy banks, jars or bank accounts, which often charge fees. Socks are accessible and plentiful. Of course, it is highly recommended that you don't use your favorite pair and that you always use clean, laundered socks! You will also need a permanent marker, like a Sharpie. Label socks as follows:

  • Future 10
  • Monthly 55
  • Learning 10
  • Insurance 5
  • Charity 10
  • Fun 10
How could it be so simple? Well, it is! Again, the only requirement is that one must stick to the plan, no matter what happens financially. Whenever you get paid, divide your pay (checks or cash) into each SOCK. If the SOCK idea is too simplistic figure out how you can divide up you money without dipping into it. The FUTURE sock should NEVER be touched, it is for investment only. The MONTHLY SOCK is for food, shelter, clothing etc. If you tend to shop with abandon, designate a sensible amount from the MONTHLY just for shopping. The LEARNING SOCK is vital. Whether it is an acting class or a course on financial freedom, Wealth Performance believes education is key to growing a healthy nest egg. Make every effort to always nourish your mind. The CHARITY sock. Always be giving. Ofcourse, you decide to whom and how often. Choose an organization that you truly believe in. The INSURANCE sock. well, we are an expensive society. This could also be called the unexpected SOCK. The idea here is to always be prepared!FUN, have some. It is human nature to enjoy life. This sock will encourage love and laughter and perhaps even help remind you to celebrate every saving success! Don't wait another minute. Start today!

SPIRIT PERFORMANCE
SUMMER CROSSROADS by Ruth Ann Karch
I once read a theory that angels are the thoughts of God. I have a personal example of how this might work. My husband was involved in a terrible accident in which his best friend was badly injured. A painter who was working across the street from the scene leaped over a fence and offered aid to the injured man and comfort to my husband. He told my husband that he had not heard the accident, only the voice of God telling him to come. With all the chaos and worry in the wake of the accident and the friend's truly miraculous recovery, I never got to thank or speak to the hero, a man who said he heard the voice of God.

Later when I read about angels being the thoughts of God, I thought of the painter. Perhaps he had prayed that day that God would give him the privilege of helping someone. Perhaps he prayed the Our Father, "thy will be done," and God took him up on the offer. One thing for sure, the man's mind had to be clear, free of worldly concerns or self-indulgence, so that God could share Divine thoughts with him. That day, three years ago, a house painter became an angel. As summer comes to our beach world and our streets become even more crowded with vehicles and people, let us pray that we can stay relaxed with a clear mind and an awareness of the needs of those around us. That way if God needs a receptacle for his thoughts, we're ready to be angels on earth.

A Psalm for Summer
by Ruth Ann Karch
the heat of Holy energy in our hearts,
the expansiveness of open, eternal water,
the refreshment of one wave after another,
the small grit of life contouring like sand underfoot,
and divine thoughts echoing in our souls,
like the sound of a great ocean in a shell.
